(March 8, 2010) Peoria Public Library will close South Side Branch at 6:00 p.m on Friday, March 19 in order to pack and move materials so the building can be vacated and turned over to the current owner of the building, District 150, for renovations by March 31.
The move is part of the Peoria Public Library building plan to offer equal library service around the city and as renovations at Lincoln Branch Library are completed in late 2011, that branch will offer the additional hours and services that were unavailable on the south side of the city previously. The Peoria Public Library Bookmobile will also offer new and additional services throughout the south side once the new North Branch opens to the public in 2011.
South Side Branch staff has already been integrated into a rotating schedule of working at Lincoln and RiverWest Branches.
The public may return items checked out from South Side Branch to any library location. The Peoria Public Library website at www.peoriapubliclibrary.org offers many 24/7 library services including an online catalog to renew and search for materials, searchable databases, homework help from live tutors and much more. Library staff is continuing to work with Harrison School to provide storytimes and other outreach services.
