Our goal is to help you find the resources you need to help you complete class projects. Encourage your teacher to have a class at the library, preferably at the beginning of the semester or session, so we can show you around and point out the different resources you will be using. You will be using children's books and journals throughout the class, so you will be making frequent trips to the library. We want you to feel comfortable and feel free to ask the staff any questions you might have.
The staff is pleased to point you in the right direction with an assignment but a big part of your class is aimed at your learning to use the library's resources and to evaluate children's materials on your own. We're here to point out certain sections of the department in which useful materials can be found, or help you locate biographical information on authors or illustrators, but cannot name specific books for you to read or pull a units' books for you.
The Youth Services Department provides materials and resources for children and dealing with children up through 8th grade. We also have a Young Adult collection, which is housed on the main floor.
Your teacher will ask you to read books in different categories, such as picture books, easy reading books, science fiction books, etc. Some books he/she will ask you to read are nonfiction, such as religion, fairy tales (they're stories but housed in nonfiction), travel, etc. You will also be using journals and other resources to help you find information.
We hope this web page will help you successfully complete your Children's Literature class.
