Our Collection

Juvenile fiction includes Picture Books (JP), with special sections for Holiday books and Caldecott Award winners. The Easy Reader section houses books marked EZ with limited vocabulary for children just learning to read. Children's novels are also included in juvenile fiction (JFIC).

Juvenile non-fiction includes Juvenile biographies, and non-fiction.

Young People's Library includes non-fiction, biographies, fiction, and Newbery Award winning books.

The Young Adult collection is housed on the main floor and contains fiction, non-fiction, popular series paperbacks, magazines, and books on tape and CD for teens.

Kid Concerns houses books on social issues children face such as death, divorce, adoption, disabilities, behavior problems, or a new baby in the family.

Reference Materials include encyclopedias, dictionaries, atlases, Something About the Author, and Children's Literature Review. These and the many other reference items which may be used in the library are excellent research tools for children and adults.

Youth Services' International Collection has materials in French, German, Japanese, Italian, Chinese and Spanish.  Our Spanish collection includes both print and non-print materials.

The non-print collection contains Juvenile and YPL audio books on tape and CD, videos, DVD's, music CD's, CDROM computer games and educational board games, puzzles and activities.

Children's magazines for many age groups are housed in Youth Services, including American Girl, National Geographic Kids, Nickelodeon, Sports Illustrated for Kids, Baby Bug, Sesame Street, Highlights and others.

Paperback books
are shelved by author or by series with special locations for horror and classic novels. Board books for toddlers also have a special section.

The Youth Services Department owns complete Caldecott and Newbery collections. There are both circulating collections and reference collections for each award.
