What We Do
The Outreach Department provides non-traditional library services – beyond the brick and mortar!
Services provided by the Outreach Department include:
• Talking Books for the Blind and Physically Handicapped
The Talking Book Program was established in 1931 by an act of Congress to provide free and accessible library services to those who cannot read standard print because of visual, physical, or reading disability. This service is provided to citizens living anywhere in the United States or abroad.
• Homebound Delivery Service
Our Homebound Service is a FREE service. Library staff will select materials based on an individual’s interests and deliver right to your doorstep once a month.
• Senior Deposit Collections at Senior Living Facilities and area Nursing Homes
These deposit collections include 40 large print books delivered to the Deposit Collection and then replaced with new materials once a month by the Outreach Staff. The collection contains all genres. Each delivery may include, but is not limited to: best sellers, romance, mysteries, westerns, general fiction and non-fiction. Items in these collections are checked out for 90 days, giving residents and clients the opportunity to take longer than a month to finish a book.
• Bi-Folkal Kits
Travel to the past and remember how things used to be with a Bi-Folkal kit available for check out from the Peoria Public Library Outreach Department. A Bi-Folkal kit has everything you need in a bag (with the exception of a DVD/CD player).
